THE SPIRAL

Light is energy. It is experienced in subtle ways as vibration and it moves in waves. High frequency, low frequency, all energy moves in spirals. You will see a lot of spirals in my work. The spiral is one of the oldest symbols representing the perpetual motion of life the endless, ever expanding, seemingly linear trajectory bound within the cycles of time. Although each loop brings us back to the same place, it takes us to a higher and more evolved level. Another way to look at the symbolism of the spiral is that we are pulled by temptation and darkness to live in the fringes, the outer edges of the spiral, the tornado, separated from source and subject to the waves of illusion, attachment and suffering. The place of true freedom is the center, the core, the place where we are still, the eye of the storm, where we return to peace connected to the unchanging, infinite source from which we came and where we ultimately return.

THE HEART

You will also find the imagery of the heart showing up in my work. Carlos Castaneda speaks to the fact that, like traveling on a spiral, all paths go no where. His advice in choosing your way in life is to follow the path with a heart. If all roads lead nowhere, at least the path with a heart will allow you to know joy and peace.

LIGHT AND DARK

I believe it is about light and dark. I believe there is a universal and eternal battle between these two forces. I believe that more often than not, light triumphs over darkness but darkness is seductive, it is easier. It is more comfortable even if it is miserable. It offers refuge but it consumes what it attracts. Darkness consumes what it attracts. I think you have to fight to stay in the light. It is effort. You have to exert energy, take action, to enjoy a high level of energy but it is worth the return on investment.

THE POWER OF INTENTION

Some people radiate more light than others. Some objects radiate more light than others. Some art radiates more light or vibrates higher or lower frequencies. My intention is to put out into the world art that radiates the most light or vibrates at the highest frequency I am capable of putting out into the world. There is enough darkness and confusion in the world. We have CNN. We are well acquainted with the human condition. I prefer to ask: Now what? What am I going to do about it? How am I going to fight it or accept and integrate it? Better yet, how am I going to help others stay in the light?

THE UNKNOWN

This work, like my life, is about participating with the unknown. It is about stepping out into that space where anything can happen, not without fear, but with abandon. It is about engaging with infinite creative consciousness in a playful, trusting and reverent way, believing that something relevant wants to come into the world, respecting and honoring how that manifests itself while suspending judgment. It is risky, scary, fun, meditative, rich, limitless, informative, fascinating and mysterious. It is a co-creation.

ENERGY

Energy is available to you from two sources: the outside world (visual stimulation e.g. art, sound, nature, light, color, fresh food, the elements, engagement with animals and people) or internally generated (through prayer, yoga, mediation, exercise, positive thinking, breath work, etc.). Creating these pieces for you gave me internally generated energy. It was a deep, timeless meditation for me. I felt in doing it a connection to something greater than myself, a communion that made me feel safe and present. There was no where else I wanted to be and I felt I longed for nothing. I was in a state of peace, grace, absorption and communion. For that, I thank you for participating in making this my life’s work. Thank you for supporting me in seeking the light, being the light, spreading the light and traveling light.
